CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY
What is carries and what are its causes?
Carries is a dangerous disease affecting our teeth. Unfortunately, the sad statistics indicate that most of the adults in our country suffer from it. It is caused by bacteria of the Streptococcus genus, but of course they are not the only factor influencing the formation of caries. In addition, favorable circumstances for the bacteria must occur such as inaccurate, unsystematic and poor oral hygiene as well as consumption of cariogenic foods. There are certain factors that make the tooth tissue more susceptible to the development of caries, for example, too small salivation or enamel defects.
What does caries prevention look like?
First of all, we should remember about control visits that should be made at least twice a year. If you are particularly prone to tooth decay, you might want to visit the dentist more often. Utmost importance should be attached to proper and regular brushing of the teeth and cleaning the tongue. In addition to the brush and the paste, make sure to use dental floss to clean interdental spaces and lotions that help maintain good oral hygiene and fresh breath between brushing. A low sugar diet plays an important role, too. Detailed advice on how to prevent tooth decay will be given to you by dentists during a control visit to our clinic. They can also show you what proper brushing should look like.
What is the course of caries treatment?
Caries treatment is primarily aimed at removing changes that already occurred and inhibition of any further ones, as well as rebuilding the tissues of the tooth that have been destroyed. First, the dentist removes decay, and then gives the cavity the right shape to make the restoration perform its function. Then, the cavity bottom is coated with the medical material and the primer is applied according to what the type of filling will be used. At the final stage, the doctor applies the filling and shapes it, adapting it to the patient’s occlusion. Obviously, caries treatment can be performed under anesthesia. We offer safe and effective formulations with which dental treatment will not be a stressful experience and sitting in the dentist’s chair may be completely relaxing.
How can teeth hypersensitivity be treated at the dental surgery?
Tooth sensitivity is a very distressing ailment for the patients which is manifested by a piercing pain of varying intensity. This pain occurs when you consume cold and hot foods or drinks as well as in contact with what is very sweet or sour. Sometimes it also appears while brushing your teeth and even when we inhale cold air into the mouth. The most common reasons for hypersensitive teeth are their microdamages, gum diseases such as exposed tooth necks, teeth gnashing, too intense brushing, smoking cigarettes, consumption of products that destroy tooth enamel, but also, in some cases, such procedures as whitening or sandblasting, which makes enamel more sensitive. Fortunately, hypersensitivity of teeth can be treated successfully by aiding mineralization with, e.g., gel overlays or special formulations that are used as a mouthwash. An active ingredient here is the high concentration fluorine. When the measures to combat hypersensitivity do not bring the expected results, your dentist may treat the tooth root canal by removing the nerve, making the pain of a tooth disappear. In any case of hypersensitivity, the specialist will attempt to diagnose its cause and get rid of it. For example, if the cause of the pain are sick gums, you need to act on this front. If the tooth hypersensitivity appeared, for example, as a result of improper hygiene and excessively intensive brushing, the doctor will help the patient change the habits in this respect.
ENDODONTIC TREATMENT
When is root canal treatment necessary?
Endodontics deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the dental pulp (commonly called root canal treatment) and complications associated with this type of disease. The dentist undertakes endodontic treatment if he wants to keep alive the ailing pulp of the tooth or the tooth in which an irreversible inflammation process is happening or in the case of the pulp necrosis. Sometimes, as a result of long-term inflammation of the pulp or the root canal treatment which was performed earlier, a dangerous inflammation of the periapical tissues sets on and the salvation for the tooth may also be professional endodontic treatment. The pulp of the tooth is inside the crown, in the root canal system. Disease of this „nerve ” of the tooth is the most common consequence of untreated cavities that „expand” or it can also be the result of tooth damage. Endodontic treatment should be taken without delay, not only because of the risk of the tooth loss. Inflammation of the dental pulp is a straight way a number of diseases of internal organs due to contamination of other parts of the body with the root canals bacteria.
What is the course of the root canal treatment?
During the root canal treatment, the doctor must remove the entire diseased or dead pulp of the tooth. This is done mechanically with special tools and chemical substances carefully debriding root canals. Effective and permanent endodontic treatment depends primarily on the total and meticulous removal of all infected tissue, therefore it is one of the most important steps in the course of the root canal treatment. Shaping the canal is also of considerable importance. The doctor will give it a slightly conical shape, narrowing towards the top. The final stage of treatment is restoration and closing the canal with a special material.
Modern root canal treatment with a microscope allows you to tackle the most complex cases that require precision and delicacy in action. This kind of treatment is also offered in our clinic. The microscope is also used for removing broken endodontic instruments.
Endodontic treatment enables the patient to retain their own tooth which will serve them for many years and allows them to avoid prosthetic restoration. Root canal treatment is a much better option for the patient than the extraction, not only from economical point of view, but also medical and aesthetic one.
